May 2008
Dear Camp Family,
We have been riding full force into the spring time activities including this week’s Trike-a-Thon to benefit St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital. The asphalt will be busy all day, weather permitting, and we will see big smiles and great energy as the children bike their way around. What fun tied into good lessons in safety and caring! Please help your child understand that their family and friends will help children who are ill by sponsoring their biking activity.
So what’s been going on at Camp Auxilium these days? Those of you who missed a peek at Joke Week must put that on your list for next year! What a treat to hear our little friends stand in front of the crowd to tell their jokes. You would be so proud AND SO entertained! Thanks for sending the children In with their jokes and for “practicing” them with them.
Please pass along our thanks to the grandparents and friends who graced our school with their presence during our Grandparents’ Days. The children feel so honored when they can welcome enjoy the company of these special people in their lives and bring them into their everyday world at Camp Auxilium.
Health and Safety Weeks were a hit, too! If you heard your child talk about “Go foods, Slow foods, and Whoa foods,” it was thanks to Mrs. Patti Bode who prepared a beautiful display of foods and a simple lesson on nutrition for the kids. Thanks also to Nurse Anna Marie, Nurse Barbara who presented basic hygiene concepts of hand washing and vision/hearing screening, and to Trooper Daniel O’Keefe who saw each age group through a presentation on Stranger Danger.
Earth Day in praise of the Creator God has been observed through the colorful burst of spring in the hall designed by the children and their teachers, a brief visual prayer put together by Mrs. Rita and by the creation of “Dirt Dessert.” Hands on lessons are seldom forgotten!
The coming weeks are BUSY with all kinds of activities that the kids love and that are precious to Camp Auxilium. Please don’t miss any sheet in the nice thick packet that goes out with this letter this week!
Our Summer Camp Program info has gone out. Please note that there will be an information meeting for you on May 29th at 7:15 p.m. Any questions in the meantime, please call!
The Salesian Sisters Centennial pin was presented to our grandparents last week. It’s our 100th Birthday here in the United States! We thank God for the enthusiasm, faith, and courage of our sisters over the years, and we thank YOU for bringing your children to us so that we can share with them the great gift of God’s love for us in this wonderful world.
Have a beautiful month of May, the month we give to moms, including Mary, our Helper, the “Auxilium.” May God bless you, your children and your families especially during those wonderful occasions of First Communions, Confirmations, Graduations, Mothers’ Day, and the like that come at this time of year.
